Esophageal pH Testing
Doctors at Medical Center of Lewisville are employing innovative technology to conduct pH testing to measure the degree of acidity or alkalinity in the esophagus of patients suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Through a procedure involving the BravoTM Delivery System, a pH probe is inserted via a patients mouth or nose and positioned above the lower esophageal sphincter where it can measure the amount
and degree of acidity and how often stomach acid flows into the lower esophagus.
Once the pH probe is in place, doctors can generate suction, draw a small amount of esophageal tissue into the probe and lock it in place. The physician then withdraws the pH probe and can begin measuring pH levels with minimal discomfort to the patient.
pH Monitoring:
Allows 48-hour or 24-hour pH monitoring
Enhances patient comfort and convenience
Eliminates throat discomfort associated with trans-nasal pH catheters
Patients are able to maintain normal diet and activity levels
Miniature pH probe transmits data to pager-sized receiver
Attaches to the esophagus and stays in one place
