Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine procedures are safe and painless. They assist your physician in detecting disease in the heart, liver, lungs, gallbladder, thyroid and bone. While very safe, they do require a small amount of Radioactive nuclide to either be injected, swallowed or inhaled depending upon the type of procedure being performed. After the nuclide has been given, it will travel to the specified area of interest. Once there, a camera will record the radioactivity emitted from the area and form images with the assistance of a computer workstation. From those images, your physician will have a better understanding of the organs structure, function and disease if any, which will help him/her identify problems and plan a course of treatment specific to your needs.
