Childbirth Orientation & Preparation Classes

As you get closer to your baby’s birth, you may have questions about giving birth and parenting.  At Medical Center of Lewisville, we believe that understanding the birth process and parenting skills will help you assume your role with greater ease, comfort and joy.  Specialized nurses and educators teach our Childbirth Preparation Classes and are designed to help ease the fear of the unknown that many first time expectant parents experience.

We recommend that expectant mothers take these classes during the last two months of pregnancy.  Registering during your fifth month of pregnancy is suggested in order to ensure availability in these very popular classes.  Descriptions of each class, as well as the class schedules, are listed below.

Breastfeeding:
The basic principles of breastfeeding to help you be successful during the first week of life, such as positioning, latch, breast care, when and if to pump, supplementation, techniques for dealing with sleepy babies, and skin to skin contact with your newborn will be covered in prenatal class.  We offer an additional class for any parents who have further questions.
• WHEN: 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
• Jan 7, Feb 4, Mar 4, Apr 1, May 6, Jun 3, Jul 1, Aug 5, Sep 2, Oct 7, Nov 4, Dec 2
• FEES: $15 per couple
• LOCATION: Patient Tower, Community Room, 2nd Floor


Prepared Childbirth:
These classes assist the expectant couple in understanding the labor and delivery process, preparing for the hospital experience and caring for your newborn in the first days and weeks of life, including breastfeeding and CPR.  A tour is included with this class.
Classes are offered as follows:
• 3 WEEK SESSION: Monday or Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
• WEEKEND SERIES: 1st or 3rd Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• FEES: $65 per couple, unless delivery is here
• LOCATION: Patient Tower, Community Room, 2nd Floor


Sibling Classes:
Siblings may experience feelings ranging form happiness to anger over the addition of a new baby to the family.  The Sibling Class will help promote enthusiasm about the new baby, while allowing siblings to explore their feelings concerning the new family addition.  This class is for parents and brothers and sisters to be (4 years or older.)  Through video, various interactive activities, and a tour of the Obstetrical Unit, children will learn about becoming an older sibling and how to interact with a new baby.  It is recommended that you attend this class during the eighth month of your pregnancy so siblings don’t have time to forget what they learned.
• WHEN: 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

• FEES: $10 per child

Hospital Tour: 
A hospital tour is offered to familiarize you with the birthing facilities for those not attending prenatal classes.  Please register in advance as space is limited.
• WHEN: 1st Tuesday of every month, 6:30 p.m.
• Jan 5, Feb 2, Mar 2, Apr 6, May 4, Jun 1, Jul 6, Aug 3, Sep 7, Oct 5, Nov 2, Dec 7
• REGISTRATION: Required, but there is no fee for the tour
• LOCATION: Meet at the Medical Center of Lewisville Main Street Entrance, by the fountain.
